Using the LAB Profile

The Language and Behaviour Profile

The LAB Profile is a tried and tested methodology that will increase options used to help companies and individuals to become more effective and confident with their decisions.

In today’s economic climate more so than ever- the Language and Behaviour Profile is an effective way of selecting the “right people” for the right job.

We combine NLP with LAB Profile to enable not only organisational change but also individuals to approach leadership more effectively.

Why is the person a fit in the career they have (or plan to have)? How do they fit in with the others in that position? Will they find the work rewarding and fulfilling? Are they a match for this career? Is there a better match for you or them? Is there another area in which they will work better?  Will the plan you have come to fruition?

How do you find the answers to these kinds of questions? A Career Assessment using the LAB Profile is a simple way to get answers to these complex questions.

The LAB Profile has been used for profiling executives, management, and employees at thousands of companies around the world since 1980. It’s easy to understand that a bookkeeper needs to be a detail person and that an accountant needs to have a more global view of the world. Most people however do not know if they are detail oriented or not. ‘Detail oriented’ and ‘global view’ are the opposite ends of one of the LAB profile patterns and are not immediately identifiable to the individual.

A detail person is not able to see the big picture; they rarely have an overview capability in certain aspects. A detail person thinks sequentially. A detail person needs to move sequentially through the data of their tasks and needs an overview person to turn data into information.

A global view person can see the big picture. They can work with details for a limited time. A global view person can move through data sequentially, but prefers to move through data randomly. A global view person is usually adept at turning data into information.

Imagine the clarity you can have about jobs and careers when you understand your own normal patterns. Do your patterns match that situation? Can you tolerate the patterns of the others (co-workers, management, customers) in that situation? The LAB Profile will enable you to understand yourself better and you will make the best choices.

It is not just the use of a rigorous form of psychometrics which makes the LAB Profile effective, it's the added bonus in the training of learning the key words which people use and thus how to understand and motivate them.

What would it be like to understand and motivate others better?

Examples of areas in which NLP and the Language and Behaviour Profile can be used are amongst others

Team Building
Staff retention
Exit Interviews
Market Research
Coaching
Training for Behaviour Change

People Management
Recruitment
Skills Training

Consulting and Problem Solving
Implementing Organisational Change

Teaching and Learning

Understanding competencies

What are the competency or skill set requirements for a particular job, team or department?  Are new candidates a fit for this?  What is the makeup of the existing team?  What’s missing? Who is the ideal candidate to fit this team?

Culture Change

What is the group’s dominant thinking style? Which LAB Profile patterns and therefore influencing language can be used to change the culture to a desired direction?

Developing Leadership

The candidate is profiled in their precise leadership role, LAB Profile patterns and criteria are regarded as a tool with which they will then develop the required competencies.

Team Building

We look at the existing team and what your company needs to achieve, we drill down with our face to face profiling by skilled consultants to be clear and what strengths are there or not and what your company needs to retain. There may be people in the team who have strengths in one area and not in others. Once all of this becomes clear, thanks to the profiling, steps can be taken to remedy situations and options offered to those who are selected for redundancy. Some of these steps we will be in a position to provide for you, others will be recommendations.

When you carry out a team LAB Profile, you can determine the team's strengths and weaknesses with regards to their mandate. You can also identify communication patterns within the team and between this team and others, as well as determine the patterns of the next person to add to the team.

Staff Retention

We profile specific aspects of work and based on the client’s language and behaviour (indicated by that language) where the root of the issue is. We then provide a report and advise how to explain the staff members you want to keep why work will work for them.

Exit Interviews

Based on the information we have gained we can then, together with your HR staff explain to the person who will be leaving why they are leaving and give them guidance in respect of what might be open to them in the future.

All of the above is based on skilled questioning and many years of working with people to understand and influence them in words which work for each individual.

We are also in a position to provide further mentoring and coaching to individuals in the team, as well as team building days and sessions.

Market Research

People’s patterns vary by Context, several methodologies have been developed to empirically determine the different below-conscious motivations customers have for competing products and services. This is used to create whole mass communication strategies.

Coaching

The coach elicits conversationally the LAB Profile patterns of the present and desired state and casually overlaps the Influencing Language to enable the client to experience the desired state and develop his or her own solutions.

Training for Behaviour Change

Using the LAB Profile you can choose activities which will create the desired behaviour changes for any target group, first by decoding the Motivation Patterns for the group and then understanding which LAB Profile patterns are addressed by any given activity.

People Management

You can train managers to identify the LAB Profile Patterns and thereby the strengths of their team members, so they can adjust assignments to suit what staff members naturally do best at work.

Recruitment

You can carry out a LAB Profile for a position and corporate culture to create an advertisement that will be irresistible to those who fit and turn off those who do not fit. You can then screen the selected short-listed candidates to find the best match. (Note: The LAB Profile does not measure skills, knowledge or attitude; rather it measures whether the person has the Motivation Traits and Internal Processing to fit the tasks and the environment; in other words "fit".)

Skills Training

Learning the LAB Profile will enable people to develop finely-tuned abilities in the following areas: Influencing & Persuading, Negotiating, Leadership, Conflict Resolution, Sales and Customer Service.

Consulting and Problem-Solving

There is an easy to use LAB Profile methodology to diagnose and develop solutions to any communication problem. This is a favourite amongst business leaders and consultants.

Implementing Organisational Change

You can diagnose the present and desired organisational cultures in LAB Profile terms and determine the appropriate change methodology for maximum sustainable results.

Teaching and Learning

Teachers and students can easily identify the LAB Profile Patterns which facilitate or cause difficulties in learning for individuals and whole groups. Minor adjustments can then be made to the teaching/learning methodology to correct any problems.
